According to a new European directive, if you’re going to call a tea “Darjeeling” it has to have grown in Darjeeling. Much like “Champagne” can be only be labeled as such in the European Union if it comes from the French “Champagne” region – Darjeeling tea is now a protected regional product or to use the legal term, has achieved “protected regional status.” Personally, I’m all for it: http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/industry-and-economy/article2866170.ece
