According to a new European directive, if you’re going to call a tea “Darjeeling” it has to have grown in Darjeeling. Much like “Champagne” can be only be labeled as such in the European Union if it comes from the French “Champagne” region – Darjeeling tea is now a protected regional product or to use the legal term, has achieved “protected regional status.” Personally, I’m all for it:

This is a great news.
For us yes, but not for the statistics. Now there will be much less Darjeeling sold
Does it matter?
Apart from some strange people that like to see sales going up of x% every year, what matters to us is quality.
