It’s Video Tuesday. Well, it is now.
I have to thank Chicago Tea Garden for linking to this on twitter, great fun – watch it!
“Art of Blending Tea” Twinings Master Blender
[bpfb_video]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NS7aDxXzKeM&feature=youtu.be[/bpfb_video]
It’s actually a fascinating video about the detailed process Twinings goes through to blend their teas. When you are talking about a company with a limited line of teas, they have to define the flavor profiles for each product in their line and they then have to choose from an extremely wide selection of tea sources (she says 2000 in the video) to blend and mix together to create that consistent flavor profile.
What is interesting is the amount of skill needed to accomplish this, the actual teas you get in a box of Twinings breaksfast in 2010 might be quite a different combination of teas than what you might get in 2011 – but the result of the blending process might make your 2010 cup remarkably similar to your 2011 cup. While we often say nasty things about tea bag teas and that method of creation, the skills and knowledge needed to do that are incredibly astounding.
It is much like Lipton: standardization all the way and no room left for a different taste since the customer expects the same taste and quality every time he/she drinks one of their teas.
Am commenting to push this video up in the stream. Just hope you’ve had a chance to watch it, it’s much worth it.
