Seems absurd the French would try and trademark this name. What do you think @xavier?
Compagnie de Trucy is an investment firm and they say they are willing to create a “luxury” brand around rooibos (http://www.jeuneafrique.com/actu/20130307T210023Z20130307T210018Z/).
Burke International tried to do the same in the US in 1994 and lost.
Unless they really try to do that (and trademaking a generic name all around the place is silly as said the Trademark Institute), it is a money thing.
