Tea and coffeeshop (real coffee) Geels & Co in Amsterdam closes its mortar and brick doors after 149 years and continues as webshop. The competition with Senseo and Nespresso proved to be too strong.

The company has been run by 5 generations of the Geels family.

I have been here a few times. Unfortunately only since they were renovating the old building with the museum, so I have never been to the museum. Sad to see it go.

    • That looked like a nice place, and yes it’s sad when something like that turns into a webstore. Especially after being a brick and mortar shop for so many generations. Are there are other good places in Amsterdam that you know of?

      • There are a few that I know of. Formocha (specialized in China tea), ‘t Zonnetje, Wijs&zonen, of course several times Simon Levelt and a new one “Four leaves” that I have not visited yet, but where they seem to sell English tea. You know of the English type. Oh and a few china/eastern whatever food/commodities stores that also have some tea and teaware. Most noticeable “Ta Hwa” with some nice Yixing and other tea related items.
