      Have at it. You can now travel around the world confident you know how to ask for a pot of your favorite leaves. Most countries use words quite similar to tea. But not everyone. No. The Lithuanians for example say “arbata.” Sounds eerily like abattoir. Gosh, you don’t want to get that wrong do you. Give me some of your finest “slaughterhouse.” Shudder.       The article forgot to mention that “cha” comes from Cantonese, and “te” from the Fujian dialect.

      Amazingly, just the day after I read this, I got to a bit a Stuart MacBride novel where the protagonist travels to Poland and is offered ” herbata or coffee” . I felt amazingly smug.
