Private messaging issues

Am moving this into the forums for better tracking.

This is in response to an issue @xavier reported with messaging while trying to contact @thepurrfectcup – the original discussion is here. It can be continued in this thread as we work through it, or in the event that another member experiences the issue.

Anyhow, the error message reported unfortunately doesn’t lead me to a solution. I’ve temporarily deactivated message privacy (since the offender that prompted a need for has since been banned, having it turned off while I test shouldn’t be a problem…!). @xavier I’d like you to try again now with the system turned off and let me know what you get.
