My father expressed interest in a tea kettle that allows the whole organic leaves to steep in the bottom.  He has the leaves, but I don’t know what kettle to get him.  I’ve looked on Amazon.om for what he’s looking for, but can’t seem to find anything that matches his description.

I’ve seen kettles with filters that rest inside the top of the kettle, but he doesn’t want that.  He expressly said he wants the leaves to be free at the bottom of the kettle, but not pour out with the tea.

Do tea kettles with a filter in the tap exist?  What is this type of kettle called that I’m looking for?

Does he mean that the leaves are free in the kettle or that the kettle has some kind of strainer-contraption at the bottom of the kettle?

There are a lot of teapots out there that are made for free loose leaf brewing. They usually have small holes or some strainer at the entrance of the spout. But this is model dependent and as far as I know has no name of its own. And to make it “easier” it is not always described in the description.

He wants the leaves free in the kettle.

I did a search for strainer like you mentioned and found one.

‘Tea Strainer Pot – 22 ounce’ by Northwest Glass

Your right, they are hard to accurately locate.  Couldn’t find one with the strainer in the spout.

      Thank You.

@techyguy717 I think perhaps you might consider the French press. It is often used for coffee, but I use one regularlya. You can find them pretty much anywhere.

I wrote an article about them sometime ago: http://leafboxtea.com/875/the-best-modern-method-for-brewing-tea/

I think you might find that a French press fits the bill for something your dad might enjoy.

@techyguy717 Here are a few suggestions of teapots with strainer spouts that I found:

I’ve never seen one quite like this one with the coil dropped inside the spout:

This one, a bit like a Japanese Sencha pot:

This one, is just the strainer which is designed to be added to any teaspout:

There are others but I haven’t seen a traditional British teapot with that kind of filter yet, although I’m pretty sure they exist. We’ll see.
